Getting Around

 Getting Around

The best way to get around Gozo is to rent a car - a 4 wheel drive is even better!

Whilst there are busses and there is plenty of service to cover all of the island, there is still a lot to be desired in this service. Not every village is covered with a bus service till the evening and only Marsalforn has a late evening bus-service and only in summer. There is no night service at all.

Taxis are very expensive when compared to the continental or the UK taxi services. Manyare used just to pick the tourist up at the ferry at the start of your holiday, or take the tourist back to the ferry at the end of that holiday. But they are economical to use everyday.

That only leaves hiring a car or a bike or a motorcycle. The hilly terrain of Gozo does not lend itself to biking, although there are a lot of tourists who do go around on a bike - after all it is a very small island and places are only a few kilometers away from Rabat (as the locals still call their main town) or Victoria to give it its official name. Nowhere is more than 5 kilometers away, so biking is ok if you don't mind cylcling up the hill in a 40°C temperature in July! Mind you it's not so bad at other times of the year and mountain-biking can be fun if you are told where to go!

If you are by yourself or with your friend, then the best way to see the island in summer is certainly by motorbike! You get the breeze in your face and can access most of the island easily. Motorbikes can be hired at a cheaper price than a car and consume less petrol so are very economical to run. A crash helmet for the driver and passenger (if there is one) is mandatory.

If you are a party of more than two persons then the best way to get around Gozo is to rent a car - and a 4 wheel drive is even better given the state of some of our roads! Renting a car for more than 3 days is an economical way to get around our island but more expensive than a bike or a motorcycle.

Lets say it straight: We do not own or operate a car hiring business or a bike hiring business so we are not saying this in order to force a vehicle on you. Neither do we get a commission when we assist in renting a vehicle for our clients. We are simply providing a free service to our clients in helping them get what they want in order to enjoy thier holiday!

For those that require it we can provide a the latest local bus timetable.
